At a time when many women receive little guidance about the deeper meaning of their menstrual cycles, Rev. Dr. Joanne Angel BarryColon has created something different: a space where girls and women gather to understand their bodies as emotional, energetic, and spiritual vessels.
Through Blood Sisters Portal, part of Wholistic Fitness NY, she’s building what she calls “a remembrance”—a place where the menstrual cycle is honored from first bleed through menopause and beyond. Twice monthly on Wednesday evenings, members join virtual workshops covering everything from womb healing to Reiki, emotional release to energetic awareness.
The initiative draws from over four decades of work in holistic health and wellness. Rev. Dr. Joanne has been featured in P.O.W.E.R. Magazine’s Women of Empowerment and named to Professional Pulse Magazine’s 20 Women to Watch for 2026. Her recognition also includes appearances in 100 Successful Women in Business and Black Diamond Chronicles Magazine during Women’s History Month.
From First Bleed to Crone Wisdom
Blood Sisters Portal serves young girls beginning at age nine, guiding them to approach their first period with understanding rather than confusion. For these younger members, the program teaches how to recognize the rhythm of their bodies and connect each phase of their cycle to what they’re releasing and becoming.

For women navigating mid-life, perimenopause, and menopause, the spiritual wellness approach reframes what many view as an ending. Here, menopause becomes an initiation—a time when intuition heightens and the spiritual body takes the lead, even as physical cycles shift or complete.
The community emerged from Rev. Dr. Joanne’s book, “The Menopausal Portal,” extending its teachings into live gatherings. Her broader practice includes the P.O.S.T. METHOD—Progressive, Observational, Soul-based Training—which helps women release emotional weight without restrictive dieting and reconnect with their body’s inherent wisdom.
Building Toward a Global Community
The target audience spans multiple generations: young girls, mothers and mothers-to-be, women entrepreneurs, and those in perimenopause and menopause. Topics addressed include PMDD, conception preparation, doulaship, nervous system restoration, and feminine energy alignment.

Over the next three years, the plan calls for expanding to 10,000 members globally. That growth will include both virtual and in-person experiences, masterclasses, podcast interviews, and sacred ceremonies. The vision extends beyond gatherings—it’s designed to support women as they step into roles as authors, speakers, healers, and leaders.
What sets the holistic wellness community apart is its integration of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual elements. It’s not simply a fitness program or a support group, but what Rev. Dr. Joanne calls a portal—a threshold where women can realign with themselves at every stage of their feminine journey.
