Drawing from over two decades of clinical experience, Dr. Julie Pelletier has developed an interactive therapeutic companion that helps children learn essential coping skills. Her creation, Therabear, combines gentle weight therapy with guided emotional support through a unique talking feature.
A New Approach to Children’s Mental Health

Unlike traditional stuffed animals, Therabear incorporates multiple therapeutic elements. The bear contains a removable “therapeutic heart” that, when squeezed, guides children through calming exercises and positive reinforcement. This innovative design emerged from Dr. Pelletier’s extensive work across various youth mental health settings, including detention centers, shelters, and hospital-based programs.
The bear’s design reflects deep understanding of children’s sensory needs, featuring multi-textured comfort materials and a light weighted core that provides calming pressure when placed on a child’s lap or chest. Each bear can be selected to match a child’s specific sensory preferences, making it adaptable for diverse therapeutic needs.

From Clinical Practice to Widespread Implementation
Therabear has found its way into multiple environments where children need emotional support – from homes and schools to pediatric hospitals and therapy offices. A smaller “Travel Buddy” version allows children to carry this emotional support tool wherever they go, clipping easily to backpacks or bags.
Looking Forward: Expanding Impact
Through her company Only Goodness, LLC, Dr. Pelletier aims to make Therabear more accessible to children everywhere. The initiative has already gained recognition, with features in Female Entrepreneurs Magazine and other publications. Plans include expanding the product line with therapeutic learning materials and accessories, including companion books and specialized carrying equipment.

The focus remains on early intervention and prevention, with particular emphasis on classroom implementation. By teaching children to pause, self-calm, and think before responding, Therabear helps build emotional regulation skills that can benefit children’s academic performance, athletic endeavors, and overall mental health.
Beyond the product itself, Dr. Pelletier maintains an active presence on social media, sharing parenting tips and emphasizing the importance of positive affirmations and gratitude. This holistic approach to children’s emotional wellness reflects her background in clinical psychology and her commitment to serving others.
