A bold new initiative is gaining momentum in the gig economy landscape, with ambitious goals to reshape the relationship between customers, drivers, and merchants. The Customers and Drivers Movement, spearheaded by a dedicated advocate on the movement’s YouTube channel, aims to create substantial change in how delivery services operate.
The movement’s central mission focuses on empowering drivers to establish their own dispatch or delivery businesses while helping merchants develop direct relationships with delivery personnel. This approach could potentially eliminate the need for third-party delivery apps that currently dominate the market.
According to the movement’s organizer, merchants currently using platforms like UberEats, DoorDash, GrubHub, and Instacart could transition back to having their own delivery drivers within one to three years. This shift would allow businesses to avoid the 30-40% commission fees typically charged by delivery apps, significantly improving their profit margins.
The initiative plans to utilize town hall-style conversations bringing together all stakeholders in the delivery ecosystem. These discussions will serve as forums for addressing concerns and developing solutions that benefit everyone involved.

While acknowledging that meaningful change takes time, the movement’s founder expresses confidence in having the necessary qualifications to lead this effort, citing personal drive, strength, motivation, passion, education, skills, and experience as key assets in this endeavor.
For merchants, a key component of the proposed solution involves creating dedicated driver portals on their existing websites or apps. These portals would enable businesses to hire 1099 delivery drivers directly, accept and deliver orders, and maintain communication with customers throughout the entire ordering process.
For customers, another key component of the proposed solution involves customers will always have the power to choose the merchant’s website and/or app to place their orders over by using third party gig apps and picking up the order instead of using delivery that is provided by gig apps until merchants 1099 drivers start to deliver.
Those interested in learning more about this developing initiative can follow updates and join discussions through the movement’s dedicated YouTube channel, where regular content about the evolving Customers and Drivers Movement will be shared.
