From personal experience to professional advocacy, one mother’s mission transforms emergency response for those with invisible disabilities.
When her first child Rocco was diagnosed with autism just before his second birthday, she never imagined her second child would receive the same diagnosis. It was the beginning of what would become ROCCOSJOURNEY Foundation, now making waves with its innovative Emergency Service Presentations program.
“It wasn’t until I realized the battle for equality and inclusion did I really begin my educational endeavor,” explains the foundation’s founder, who has since earned multiple certifications to better understand not only the diagnosis but all its counterparts including school integration, therapy approaches, and legal considerations.
What sets the foundation’s Emergency Service Presentations apart is their unique approach. Rather than attempting to provide clinical training, the program educates first responders from a parent’s perspective, drawing directly from personal experience. This approach has proven remarkably effective, offering emergency personnel insights they wouldn’t typically receive in standard training protocols.
The presentations address critical gaps in emergency response scenarios involving individuals with special needs. According to the foundation, these presentations help first responders understand behaviors that might otherwise be misinterpreted during crisis situations.
The foundation’s work extends well beyond emergency services. ROCCOSJOURNEY hosts inclusive community events designed to create environments where children with invisible disabilities can participate fully without judgment. Their philosophy centers on a powerful message: “We are all on this journey together, just at a different pace. Be kind.”
The founder’s commitment to advocacy extends to her writing. Her book about embracing autism diagnosis garnered an international award, and a second book focused on handicapped parking is scheduled for publication in April 2026.
“ROCCOSJOURNEY isn’t just about fundraising and hosting inclusive events,” she shares. “It’s about leaving behind a legacy, making the world a little bit better for those with invisible disabilities.”
This sentiment resonates throughout all the foundation’s initiatives, from public awareness campaigns to educational programs. The ultimate goal remains consistent: creating a world where children with special needs are “included, accepted, and loved equally… just like everyone should be.”
