Shay B. doesn’t believe in staying in one lane. The Odenton, Maryland-based singer, model, and actress of Jamaican heritage made her debut with “Dancin’ For Love” featuring Geovoni. It’s a single she co-wrote with producer D.J. “MLiK” Moore, released through Treble Makers Music Group and distributed by Roc Nation Distribution. The track debuted at #99 on Apple Music’s International R&B/Soul chart, and she has also walked two runway shows at New York Fashion Week.
“Music, fashion, film, it’s all just different ways of telling the same story, and that story is mine!” Shay B. said.
That story started early. “Honestly, I’ve been singing my whole life, it wasn’t really a single moment, it was just always there. I started in choir back in elementary school, and by the time I got to Broadneck High School, I was in choir and theater, and I got into APEX, which is a performing arts program. That’s really where I got to sharpen my craft and start thinking of this as more than just something I loved, as something I could actually build a career around,” she said.
Today, that career extends well beyond the booth. At just 20, Shay B. serves as Vice President of Creative & Brand Strategy at Treble Makers, a role she rose to after starting as an intern. She is also Creative Director for the clothing line F.O.B.I.A. and runs her own brand, P.N.G. (Pretty. Notable. Gifted.).
“I think what sets me apart is that I’m not just an artist. I’m a full creative. I sing, I model, I act, and I’m also on the business side, so I understand this industry from every angle, not just the stage,” she said.
On screen, Shay B. made her film debut in the urban thriller Blood Over Business and recently wrapped a supporting role in the upcoming No Surprises, filmed on location in Chicago. She also co-wrote and stars as the protagonist Naomi in the short film Surface.
“A lot of artists stay in one lane,” she said. “I’m building across music, fashion, and film all at once, and I make sure they all connect back to one story, my story.”
