A new approach to continuing education for mental health professionals has emerged from within the therapy community itself, offering an alternative to the venture capital-backed platforms that increasingly dominate the field. AFFIRM Mental Health, launched in January 2024 by licensed therapist and podcast host Shaina Siber, LCSW, represents a shift toward practitioner-led professional development that prioritizes accessibility and real-world relevance.
The boutique continuing education company distinguishes itself through a multi-platform approach that accommodates the demanding schedules of practicing therapists. Members can choose from live interactive virtual trainings, self-study webinars, or CE-accredited podcast episodes through The Affirming Minds Podcast, available on all major podcast platforms.
“I want therapists to have the energy and support to take care of themselves, their clients, and the communities they serve,” said Shaina Siber-Sanderowitz, LCSW, the platform’s founder. “My hope is that therapists will continue tuning into The Affirming Minds Podcast or checking out our webinars—even after they’ve met their CE requirements—because so many therapists are deeply dedicated to making a meaningful difference. We aim to support that passion in a way that’s affordable and convenient—because what therapists don’t have a lot of is spare time.”
The platform’s focus extends beyond individual practitioners to support entire organizations through bulk annual memberships designed for group practices, agencies, and community mental health organizations. These institutional memberships enable organizations to invest in workforce development while addressing burnout and maintaining high standards of care across their teams.
AFFIRM’s educational offerings concentrate on four key clinical areas: evidence-based therapies, LGBTQ+ affirming care, culturally responsive care, and trauma-informed practice. The continuing education platform maintains accreditation from multiple professional boards, including approval from the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), and recognition by the New York State Education Department for both psychologists and social workers.

Early feedback from participants highlights the platform’s engagement factor. “I don’t know how 3 full hours passed without a moment of distraction or boredom or watching the clock. Completely fascinating, well-structured, great outline. So professional. Learned a lot. Fantastic teacher,” noted Julie A. List, LCSW, after completing a course on Interpersonal Psychotherapy for grief and loss.
Shaina Siber, Affirm Mental Health’s founder, has been named the 2025 recipient of the Champions of Evidence-Based Psychological Interventions Award by the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT). The award will be formally presented at the ABCT Annual Convention in November. This honor recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication and influence in promoting evidence-based psychological interventions and expanding access to quality mental health care.
Unlike many CE providers that focus solely on meeting licensing requirements, AFFIRM Mental Health positions itself as supporting the broader professional development and well-being of the clinical workforce. The platform offers both monthly and annual membership options, providing flexibility that acknowledges the financial realities many therapists face.
The Affirming Minds Podcast component adds another dimension to the learning experience, blending interviews with industry experts and solo episodes that explore clinical topics in depth. “Each episode is like joining a conversation between professionals who love what they do — it’s so interesting!” commented Erin K., PsyD, LCSW, reflecting a sentiment echoed by multiple users who appreciate the conversational yet educational format.
As the mental health field continues to evolve, platforms created by and for practitioners offer an alternative to corporate-driven education models. With its emphasis on affordability, flexibility, and content created by practicing therapists, AFFIRM Mental Health represents a growing movement toward professional development that aligns with the values and practical needs of the clinical community it serves.
